News and Events
FREE CONCERT IN WEST LOOE
Our next choir concert is in the West Looe Quayside Centre at 4.30pm on Sunday 29th May. There are plenty more choir concerts to come and the Wreckers will be busy too so take a look at the full programme for the year at the What's On link opposite. As the events get closer, you'll find more details on the News and Events and Wreckers pages.
WHERE TO FIND US THIS SPRING
From 20 May 2022 to 30 Jun 2022
This is where you can find the choir and the Wreckers over the next few months. You can access an easier-to-read version by clicking on the link below. Having had a number of events cancelled last year due to Covid and stormy weather, we hope to keep a full programme this year. Concerts on Polperro Quay will be moved to the Chapel if it's raining. We look forward to seeing you - but please check the website closer to the date before making a special journey.
FREE MUSIC IN WEST LOOE
29 May 2022
After a good Sunday lunch, take a stroll alongside the river to the West Looe Quayside Centre where you can while away an hour or so enjoying the singing of Polperro Fishermen's Choir. Seating is available but it's not formal so you can come and go as you wish. Dogs are welcome too, especially if they give us some appreciative barks! It's all free and we hope to see you there.
SINGING FOR THE RNLI
7 Jun 2022
We are delighted to be singing in Looe RNLI boathouse once again, after a long period when it wasn't available because of precautions to keep the boathouse and crew safe for the essential service that they provide. The boathouse has excellent acoustics and seating is available so it makes a very good - if surprising - concert hall in a lovely location. The concert is FREE but, as the RNLI is one of our favourite charities, please toss some money into the collecting buckets. If you can't get there, put on our CD and donate at the link below!
FREE CONCERTS IN POLPERRO!
15 Jun 2022
This year, we plan to be 'at home' in Polperro for six free summer concerts, which will be in the open-air by Polperro Fish Quay, or in Polperro Methodist Chapel if wet or dark. All the concerts are subject to any Covid-19 regulations and restrictions that might be in place but, of course, we do hope that they will all take place. If you are planning a holiday and want to be sure, check the website or our Facebook page closer to the time, or send us a message at the 'Contact Us' tab. We hope to see you there.
MORE FREE CONCERTS IN LOOE
3 Jul 2022
As well as Tuesday 7th June, we plan to sing for Looe RNLI near or in the lifeboat house on Sunday 3rd and Thursday 28th July, and Tuesday 9th August. All the concerts are at 7.30pm (except Sunday 3rd July which is at 2.30pm for Songs of Praise). All the concerts are subject to any necessary RNLI precautions and operational decisions. As the RNLI is one of our favourite charities, please support their appeal for a new lifeboat at the link below.
MASSED MALE VOICES OF CORNWALL
3 Sep 2022
Don't miss a terrific opportunity to hear hundreds of male voices from Cornwall singing together in the lovely Birmingham Symphony Hall. The symphony hall, where many top stars have performed, is widely regarded as one of the finest concert halls in the world with amazing acoustics. It has a perfect location by the canal in the centre of the city, and is a short walk from hotels and car parks. To buy tickets for this exceptional experience, click on the link below.
PHIL CARRIGAN'S HERMIE BOOKS
1 Oct 2022
Our multi-talented musical director is also an author and has published several lovely well-illustrated stories - even including Polperro Fishermen's Choir and the Wreckers transformed into rather naughty singing black bunnies in 'Honey Bee Meadow'! In 'Hermie Meets The Monkeys' he visits the Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary near Looe and, as usual, things take an unexpected turn! Click on the link below to see full details of Phil's books and place an order.
STRICTLY KEYS FOR YOUR PARTY!
3 Oct 2022
Available now and all year
The Choir and the Wreckers are extremely lucky to have two such talented and dedicated musicians taking part in everything that we do. You can now enjoy their talent yourself! Phil (our musical director) and Lorraine (our accompanist / composer) will bring their two keyboards with them and entertain you at dinners, parties, weddings and other events. Their album is now available, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to the choir.
