SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

As spring arrives, the choir and the Wreckers are starting to become busy. After a brief pause for Saint Piran, the Wreckers free Wednesday evening gigs in Polperro will restart with the Ship Inn on 13th March, moving to the Royal British Legion Club a week later, and then alternating between the two. In April, the choir has two concerts in St Ive and Landrake. Further details are on the News and Events and Wreckers pages as well as our monthly publicity on our Facebook page Come and join us! FREE DOUBLE BILL IN ST IVE

Not to be confused with St Ives further west in Cornwall, St Ive church (between Callington and Liskeard) will be a hosting a concert by the choir, with some songs by the Wreckers, at 7pm on Friday 12 April. This will be a fun and FREE concert in an impressive 14th century church with a sundial above the porch which has been telling the time for over 400 years. So synchronise your watch and put the date in your diary! Donations in aid of church maintenance funds will be very welcome. There will also be a raffle and some refreshments.

Join us in St Michael's Church, Landrake, at 7.30pm on Sunday 28th April, to raise funds for the window appeal. In 1686, a boy who was baptised in the church became Lord Mayor of London. This was Sir Robert Geffrye, the 'Dick Whittington of Landrake' who was a member of the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers, still linked to the village today. Come and enjoy our 'worshipful company' in this lovely and intersting church. Tickets £7.50 on the door. Book in advance at Landrake Stores or email landrakesterneyfundraising@gmail.com. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy Songs of Praise on Sunday 12th May at 3pm in the Looe RNLI lifeboat house. (Doors open at 2.30pm.) It will be led by the Reverend Ben Morgan Lundie, and will also feature a selection of popular songs by the choir. Seating is available but it's quite informal so please come and enjoy some Sunday afternoon singing in a lovely location.

After the success of our centenary concert last year, we're looking forward to singing in Looe RNLI lifeboat house again this year. We have concerts on 4th June, 1st August (for carnival week) and 13th August, all at 7.30pm. They are all free, seating will be available and the acoustics are excellent. As the RNLI is one of our favourite charities, please help us support their essential service with some cash in their buckets or a donation.

The choir will be on tour in June. On 7th June at 6.30pm we'll be singing in the spendid Town Hall in Devizes to help celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI. Then we are off to Cheltenham to sing with our friends, the Cotswold Male Voice Choir, on Saturday 8th June. On Sunday we'll be at the Daneway Inn in Sapperton near Cirencester for lunch, beer and Wreckers songs with Rita and Brian, our dear friends who looked after us so well in the Mill House Inn in Polperro. We also hope that the lovely hostesses Adrienne and Jimima will be looking after us on the coach!

FREE CONCERTS IN POLPERRO

Come and enjoy a free summer concert or two by the choir 'at home' in Polperro. We have four dates this year. We will be singing in the open-air on the quay (weather permitting) on 10th and 24th July, and in Polperro Chapel on 21st August and 4th September, all at 7.30 pm. (Quay concerts will also be in the chapel if wet.) All the concerts are free but we will be collecting for the year's good causes so feel free to toss some money in our buckets. Every little helps!

The Choir and the Wreckers are extremely lucky to have two such talented and dedicated musicians taking part in everything that we do. You can now enjoy their talent yourself! Phil (our musical director) and Lorraine (our accompanist / composer) will bring their two keyboards with them and entertain you at dinners, parties, weddings and other events. Their album is now available, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to the choir. Our multi-talented musical director is also an author and has published several lovely well-illustrated stories - even including Polperro Fishermen's Choir and the Wreckers transformed into rather naughty singing black bunnies in 'Honey Bee Meadow'! Phil has written a lot of stories about Hermie, the cute Miniature Schnauzer who sometimes sleeps through our rehearsals.
